Can it really interfere with my t.v. reception?
There are many types of headgear. Some move top back teeth back, some move top teeth forward, some retract or lift front teeth. Less than ten percent of our patients need headgear, but those that do can actually shorten their time in braces by extra time in headgear.
For headgear to be effective, it must be worn fourteen hours out of twenty-four, that means while you are asleep and four hours during the day while you are awake. If you skip wearing your
headgear, or wear it less than fourteen hours, it doesn't do the job and you will end up having to wear the headgear and your braces longer. If you wear it more than fourteen hours, you can reduce your time in headgear and in braces.
Your teeth may get a little sore for the first few days in headgear, and, if so, you know what to do. Head for the ibuprofen and the salt water rinses. In a few days the soreness should disappear
and your teeth should move dramatically.
Please bring your headgear with you to every visit. It is really hard to adjust when you leave it home.
And for the record, no matter what your friends or siblings tell you, your headgear won't really interfere with your t.v. reception.
